Academic Services in South Africa
Specialist assignment, Honours research, dissertation and PhD support for students across South Africa, from UCT, Wits, Stellenbosch and the University of Pretoria to UNISA, the universities of technology and the private colleges, written to your module guide, your NQF level and your university’s referencing and integrity rules.
Studying in South Africa: how the system works
Swift Academic Services supports students at all 26 South African public universities, at UNISA and at the private higher education institutions, from NQF 5 higher certificates to NQF 10 doctorates. Every piece follows your module guide or tutorial letter, your university’s referencing style (most often a version of Harvard) and its academic integrity and AI rules. Work is written by human subject specialists, comes with a Turnitin report, and our hours of 2:30 AM to 9:00 PM SAST cover the whole South African study day.
South Africa has 26 public universities: traditional research universities such as the University of Cape Town, Wits, Stellenbosch and the University of Pretoria, comprehensive universities such as the University of Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela University, universities of technology such as CPUT, TUT and DUT, and newer institutions including Sol Plaatje University, the University of Mpumalanga and Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. The University of South Africa, UNISA, is the largest open distance learning university on the continent and teaches students in every province and beyond.
Alongside them sit well over 100 registered private higher education institutions and 50 public TVET colleges. Quality is assured nationally by the Council on Higher Education, and every qualification sits on the National Qualifications Framework, so a Higher Certificate, an Honours degree and a PhD each carry their own NQF level and their own expectations for what you write.
Most universities teach two semesters a year, with first semester classes from February, exams in June, second semester teaching from July and exams in November. Many modules also run as year modules, and UNISA students build a year mark through compulsory assignments submitted on myUnisa. Swift Academic Services helps students across the country submit original, well argued and correctly referenced work that meets their module’s exact outcomes, from a first year essay to a doctoral thesis chapter.
South African qualifications and the NQF: what each level asks you to write
The Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Framework sets the level and minimum credits for every qualification type. We plan your work to the level you are studying at, because a second year report and an Honours research project are marked very differently.
| Qualification | NQF level | What you usually write |
|---|---|---|
| Higher Certificate | NQF 5 | Short assignments, practical tasks and workplace style reports that show you can apply core knowledge. |
| Diploma and Advanced Certificate | NQF 6 | Applied reports, case studies, portfolios and work integrated learning reflections. |
| Bachelor’s degree and Advanced Diploma | NQF 7 | Essays, reports, problem sets, group projects and, in final year, longer independent assignments. |
| Honours degree, Postgraduate Diploma and four year professional bachelor’s | NQF 8 | An Honours degree must include a supervised research component of at least 30 credits, usually written up as a research report, research essay or long essay. |
| Master’s degree | NQF 9 | A full dissertation for a research master’s, or a mini-dissertation or research report worth at least 60 credits for a coursework master’s. |
| Doctoral degree | NQF 10 | A thesis of 360 credits assessed by external examiners, with an oral examination now required at some universities, including UNISA and UJ. |
How we follow South African university guidelines
Every order is built around how South African universities teach, mark and protect academic integrity, at public and private institutions alike.
Your NQF level and module outcomes
We read your module guide, study guide or UNISA tutorial letter first and write to its outcomes, its assessment criteria and the NQF level you are studying at, so the depth and the argument match what your marker expects.
Academic integrity and the AI rules at your university
AI policies differ across the country. UCT, Stellenbosch and the University of the Free State have stopped using AI detection scores, Wits has never used them, and several others treat AI reports only as supporting information. What counts is your own process, drafts and declarations, which is why our work is written by people from a blank page and never by AI writing tools.
Your exact referencing style
Harvard is the most common style in South Africa, often in a house version such as UCT-Harvard or the UNISA Harvard guide. We also work in APA 7, IEEE for engineering, Vancouver for health sciences, and the faculty guides and SALJ style used in South African law.
Rubrics, year marks and deadlines
We build to your rubric and to how the task feeds your year mark or exam admission, and we plan milestones around the June and November exam seasons so coursework is never left to the last week.
Research ethics and POPIA
For Honours, master’s and doctoral research we help you prepare ethics applications, consent forms and data management plans that respect the Protection of Personal Information Act. Ethics clearance itself is always granted by your university’s committee.
South African English and submission formats
We write in the British spelling South African universities use, and format your work for submission on myUnisa, Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas or Brightspace, including Turnitin submission folders.
